A Day Without Spectacles

Thursday, July 2, 08:43,

After travelling for around 1 hours 25 minutes I had reached the place where I had to spend the next 8 hours. It was another routine affair of travelling the same distance and resuming my project work. After deboarding from the bus, I took a walk from the bus stand in the way of public transit and reach the center within 15 minutes of time. I decided to go to cafeteria & take something to eat. As it was slightly hot outside, I ended up taking a cold coffee to drink. 😛

With sipping the freeze coffee that tasted great, I reach the upper floor using the staircases. I occupied my workstation and kept my belongings at the place. I took the water bottle out from my bag, and then searched for the specs box that I couldn’t find. After searching in all the zips of the bag I got to know that I have forgot to bring my specs. I stood up from the seat and told a close by colleague that I forgot my friend back home. 😛 In laugh she said, ‘What??’ I added, I forgot my glasses. 😦 😥 Calmly she said, not a problem it happens at times. And with that I spent my half of the Thursday without any vision correctness. Normally, I don’t wear my glasses when I am travelling, it has been a habit. I always keep my specs within the box and place it in a specific spot of my bag. And on that very day it didn’t happened where it used to be. 😐

I am really not blind, – 2.25 prescription only. I worked in the similar environment I was working for over past 15 days. I was aware of the paths to travel on the floor.
From the past 5 years I am wearing glasses and it was second time this had happened. The last time it was okay because I was not doing anything that needed accurate sight. But this time it was about a lot, where did I put my keys? Is that a bug or just a dot? How do I know I’m not stepping on a nail?

The oddest part for me, though, was not being able to see anybody’s face as I walked around the floor. As I mentioned, I knew where I needed to go without having to pay attention to the markings. But when it came to people I would walk past and see them and their body language, but their face was a complete blur. Many questions emerged in my mind, are they looking at me? Are they smiling? Frowning? Are they talking to me??

As I previously stated, I don’t wear my glasses while travelling. An incident that occurred with me when travelling in a rapid metro. I was seated in front of a group of girls who all appeared to be friends. I was listening to music and feeling sleepy. 😛 When you’re not able to see clearly, you tend to look in a direction with strange looks and blinking eyes, and without any reason I was directed towards the group of the girls. One of the girl from the group waved her hands in front of me and indicated in a questioning way! I signed her to wait and I put my glasses on, she started laughing and said I thought you were gazing at me but you’re myopic. 😀 😛

Having no idea was really weird. I knew that I was looking at them, but could not tell if they were looking back (I assume I freaked a few people out by staring). It made me feel completely disconnected. 😛

If you wear glasses, perhaps try it for few hours. 😉

  1. I have done this before. Not being able to see others faces clearly gives me an odd sense of annonimity while walking around. I don’t know to care who I’m looking at or who’s looking at me. But I makes my eyes strain so I have to wear my glasses.

    1. Really Samantha, not being able to see others is a weird feeling. 😛
I too have to wear it on a regular basis. Ah! I can understand. 🙂
Hope our eyes site improves towards normal. 😉

  2. I can relate but, in my case, I lost my glasses in the office and apparently it is never to be found again. Oh the headache that comes with it! Glad you still have yours. Cheers to four-sightedness! And thanks for dropping by my posts. 😉

    1. Hi Ellie,
Oops, loosing glasses and not getting it back is a pain. 😐 As being handled daily, it becomes one’s best friend. Ah! Ya, it seriously gets a awful headache. 😐
Yea, I forgot it in my room. 😛 Lol, four-sightedness. Cheers. 😉
Yea, its my pleasure. 🙂 You posted really nice stuff.
Can you please provide me your blog’s URL (as I am unable to access it now). Thanks in advance. 🙂

    1. Jennifer, it was slightly a tough day, without glasses you appear to live on a different planet. People were good to me by helping out with little things. 😊 Yea, I got it back when the evening arrived.
😄 thank you so much! You always praise me. 😊

oh.. I can understand. 😛 Its really a struggle, at start you don’t bother much and after few hours you start to feel more strain building, which causes headache.

    1. Hey Nidhi,
😀 It is shabby the way we deal when we are not with 6/6 eye sight.
lol 😀 I can understand that, people come towards you step by step and you start trying even harder to recognize them by each step they take. And then they end up in front of you.. ‘Oh.. that was you! 😛 ‘
Have a lovely day with correct vision. 😉
      Thanks 🙂

It is tough when you miss out on your spectacles. Sometimes people cannot think without their glasses. 😀
Thank you for reading. It is lovely to have you here. 🙂

  8. That’s a funny and interesting experience! I can totally relate because I’m a full-time spectacle person so it feels like the world is going upside down if I can’t find my spectacle. An it’s the first thing I look for when I wake up in the morning. Without it, my eyes will just get uncomfortable and after few minutes they’ll get teary. And everything is literally blurry! XD

I can understand how it feels, have suffered with it at times.
Missing out on your glasses is like you forgot everything you were supposed to carry. 😉
Hope you never miss out on it. 🙂

  9. I have to wear glasses for distance, but can get by without them for close up reading.
I have misplaced them myself, and it really is a strange feeling looking out at the world and not being able to distinguish facial features.
    Thank you for sharing! 🙂

    1. Hi Carl,
ya, I can understand this. 😛
Daily at the end of the day, I conclude ‘how was my day and what were the positives out of it’, on that very day when I missed out on my glasses, I only concluded that it was blur. 😛
Thank you for sharing your mix-up, Carl. 🙂

  10. Why don’t you try putting an extra pair of glasses always in your bag? It will surely help you in need unless you forget to take the bag! Spectacles can get broken too at any time, at important times! You can be risk free if you have other one in your bag, right?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Absolutely.
Everyone has suggested the same thing, and yes I do have an extra pair of it. But its just that I don’t want to carry a lot of stuff in my bag. 😛
Still I will give a thought to your suggestion. 🙂
Thank you so much, Mushfiqua. 🙂

  11. I completely understand this! I do, from time to time, take the glasses off. It’s relaxing as long as I’m in familiar territory. Occasionally I leave them when I go inside the store to shop, only having my prescription sunglasses on (which don’t have the same reading lens) I must look rather silly twisting and turning a product to read the label when that happens. I like your blog!!

    1. You are right, in familiar location we have everything in notice, we can also imagine the number of steps and direction to reach a specific place of that territory.
      Slightly tougher for you. 😛
Still, keep your friends close and glasses even closer. 😀
      Thanks for pausing by! 🙂

I used to forget my glasses in school time and I always enjoyed that day in school especially in the maths period. “forgot my glasses” excuse used to work everytime! 😀
I hope you never have to be blind again 😛

    1. Hey Swati,
My eyes demanded additional powers when I entered in higher standard of school (that didn’t mean I became more studious. 😛 ). I can imagine how you must be giving those excuses. 😉
Ya, when you don’t find glasses at home and you need it briskly then the pain is more. 😀
Yea, I hope the same for you. 🙂

  14. I have wore glasses since the 7th grade. I can see but not detail. For instance, if I did not have them on while driving I would be squinting to see if the light was red or green and trying to read the road signs before I get on top of them….hahaha This computer screen would be impossible to read. I can relate to you for sure. 🙂

  15. OMG something like this has also happened to me before! Except that I was in school and unable to make out the damn words on the whiteboard so I ended up daydreaming and copying my friend’s work instead. I must say, it was quite an unproductive day that day XD

    1. 😄 Daydreaming.. Not a bad choice during a lecture. I can imagine how you must be peeping to the white board and figuring out the letters/numbers. I think you can help your friend in copying your answer sheet during exams. 😉 Kidding.
Hope you never forget your glasses in future. 😊

  16. Totally true. Whenever I forget my glasses, just looking at people weirdly. If they know me, its weird because i was looking at their faces with small eyes and not very nice face. If they don’t know me, well, thats another story….

    always problems though…

  17. LOL, no offense, for I can only imagine (I’m not wearing glasses). Still, the way I see it—at least you care about what you don’t [quite] see. And in my book, that’s way better than those who see but don’t [quite] care. 🙂

    1. 😄 Good to have your thought here. 😊
It’s not about caring about it or not, but yes if there is a sudden change(over night) in your life(loosing glasses in my case) makes a big difference. 😋
All of sudden you cannot predict if someone is waving a hand to you from far distance or not, it makes you feel strange and bad if they really were doing something and you didn’t responded to them.
We care mostly, if something is special for us or that thing makes us smile. 😊

  18. I really am blind – between a -9 prescription and MS – It’s hard to see anything – even with my glasses on, but I find that I still do not see lots of things, one of those things is if people are waving at me. And when someone waves at you and you don’t wave back…they take offense to that :-/ It was not purposeful – I just couldn’t see!

    1. oh! I can imagine and feel it, it is tough!
Not able to see clearly feels harsh to oneself and it makes others bad because of not getting adequate response from us.
I just hope it becomes better for you! You know people say you cannot get your eyes vision back to normal but to some extent you can!
I am following a routine to have the eatables which are good to eyes and do exercises which helps to keep eyes healthy. You should also give it a try, hopefully it will become better. 🙂
Thanks for visiting! Have a good time. 🙂

Very true it feels similar like missing a limb, and yes they are very integral part of daily life for the people with vision issue. Hope you don’t miss it from now.

Ask you sister to keep it safe, as it is very precious to one’s eyes.
Just a little share, one night I was studying and while studying late at night I thought to take a 15 minutes nap. I kept my glasses on the bed few inches away from myself with a believe that I won’t roll that much. Sadly, I slept the whole night thereafter without preparing few of the important topics and even I rolled over my spectacles and broke the glasses.
Next day, I gave the exam without glasses! Luckily I scored good marks. 😊
Thanks for reading and sharing a thought. 😊

  20. I can very well relate to it. I am a -2.75 myopic. And I often tell my “normal” friends that I somehow can’t hear clearly when I do not have my spectacles on! This they dismiss as another of my dramatics. But the world is so different without them. One need not worry about others’ expressions and it is a lot easier to say all you wish to, especially when I’m dancing, it is great to not see who is watching. It is indeed a very interesting read!!!

It was weird at first and I was trying to catch any detail I could, then I decided to just ignore it and walk with that blur around me, it was crazy cause I almost dumped into an officer and a car. I think I’ll be doing that often.

So as not to stress out. 🙂 I sometimes look at trees without my glasses then the light, sunshine that pass through the leaves, appear like bokeh effect. I simply enjoy this too at times at home only. But still have to wear glasses to ‘function’.
